266: A sense of humour

I hate graffiti. With a vengeance. They've even been in and sprayed their nonsense on the inside of our lift. A problem all over the world as young people prove how clever they (think they) are.
But when does graffiti become art? When does it become acceptable? I came across this smiley face on several lamp posts in the Preobrazhenskiy district and it cheered me up for the rest of the day.
There is lots of competition for teaching English in Moscow. Many blocks of flats have an information board outside where people or companies can advertise their wares. This one is outside my entrance and there are three notices advertising English lessons! Luckily though, demand exceeds supply.
I'm on my way to UK in a couple of hours. Off to the kitchen to make a smoothie with my left over fruit and a yoghourt. Otherwise it would all go off before I come back next Saturday.
My video clip for today is that old Simon and Garfunkel favourite - Homeward Bound.

265:Time for autumn to fall

A photo taken out of the window using my mobile phone. Soon it will be time to put tape around the window frames to help keep the wind and cold out during winter. For the moment it is time to enjoy the rich red and brown hues of autumn (or fall as the Americans call this season).

Next, a couple of pictures of the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth. It is where potential officers in the Royal Navy go for their initial training. I went there for a formal dinner on the evening of Saturday 14th as a guest of the Goldfish Club, a worldwide association of people who have "come down in the drink". Interesting to see the parade ground at the front of the building - debunking the myth that the Navy don't do drill!

The last photo for today shows a car that I thought was fluttering its eyelashes at me as I passed!

The song/video for today is of Eva Cassidy singing autumn leaves. Enjoy the beautiful words and pictures.

264: More down time!

No time to write this morning. Travelling to Torquay after breakfast.

263: Some down time - at last

Relaxing, nay, languishing, at Ghyll Manor - a country house hotel in East Sussex. Yesterday was a trip to the seaside - to Worthing, a small resort on the South Coast of England. It's roughly midway between Brighton and Bognor Regis.
One amusing incident at lunchtime. I ordered fish and chips and wanted 2 fish and 1 portion of chips. The ever helpful young lady behind the counter said that there was a special offer on (for OAPs!!) for 2 fish and chips. So, instead of paying £9 for 2 fish and 1 chips I paid £7.60 for 2 fish and 2 chips and threw away the chips that we didn't eat. Isn't the world a funny place. (Plaice!)
One more day then move on to Torquay for the weekend before flying back to Moscow on Sunday night.

262: September already

Sometimes it seems as though I spend half my life underground, on the metro and on the long long metro escalators. I can usually guess what the weather is like 'up top' by reference to the length of the skirts that the girls are wearing. Looking at this one I thought "ah, yes, must be late Summer. Autumn is just around the corner."

Before Autumn does decide to arrive I thought I would have a wander around VVTs - the All-Russia Exhibition Centre. This place is enormous and caters not only for all manner of exhibitions in the huge pavilions but also for the fun-loving public. Here are some of the pictures I took yesterday.

I'm not sure at what age a disinclination to take some of these "extreme" rides comes into being but I do know that such thrills are not for me any more. Come to think of it, you don't see many senior citizens whizzing round on these things. It's not just me then!

Instead of a video clip I though I might offer a sound clip this morning. The rain started even before I got home from the park yesterday and continued all night. This is the sound of the rain on the balcony outside my bedroom. It is lucky I'm usually a heavy sleeper.
Sorry, this is going to have to wait until I figure out how to upload the sound clip.
